Superbikes (and cars) at CadwellPosted by matt
I had never been to Cadwell Park before but after the British Superbikes last weekend I’ll certainly be going back! I don’t think I will ever forget Kiyonari’s Honda getting airborne at The Mountain and landing on the grass! Unsurprisingly, Kiyonari took victory in the first race on the HM Plant Honda. He was closely followed home by Michael Laverty on a Suzuki after Tommy Hill, the championship leader, crashed out whilst pressuring Kiyonari for the lead. Michael Rutter came home in third on the gorgeous Ducati 1098R, which was easily the best sounding bike of the lot!
The second race was again won by an HM Plant Honda, but his time it was the Australian Josh Brookes who took the chequered flag after ‘Kiyo’ suffered a technical problem on the warm up lap. The double victory is a great result for the HM Plant Honda team, who are based just down the road from Cadwell Park. Tommy Hill managed to retain the championship lead after coming in second on his Worx Crescent Suzuki, while Michael Laverty earned himself a double podium after coming home in third place.
Unusually for a Superbike weekend there was a car race. It was nice to see the Fiat Abarth Trophy on the timetable and I think mixing cars and bikes is a great idea. Why doesn’t it happen more often? Is it because car and bike racing fans are two totally different markets? Though I have to say I know plenty of people who are big fans of both. How awesome would it be to have British Superbikes and BTCC on the same billing? Anyway, if you haven’t been to Cadwell Park before you should go as it is an absolutely brilliant venue for both cars and bikes.
