i forgot to mention

new k75 bars 2 years ago, and heated grips. more upright riding position but bars do have less swing room as they do crash into the fairing .extremely limited turns . have to get used to it still.

luftmeister 2 into1 exhaust 24 years ago and one size up on the bings. makes the upper rpm range much much better .not constipated as before ,and did lose some torque but much smoother running at 6k .

fork brace

custom made seat by myself resembling a military horse saddle for safety and better comfort

gps, valentine1 , hella horns ,

a fun bike and a very reliable bike so far except for the diodes .

well, i got mine straight from the new york bike show in 1982. it was red/black.
painted it lexus green15 years ago,and a bright canary yellow 7 years ago.

have owned other bikes including hd.ng,duc,etc.....

still own the r100rs and the hd street glide.

many times have gone to buy a newer beemer and when i get back on my r100rs i ask myself ---why ??

just 3 months ago i rode the r1250s or is it r1200 ? anyhow .great bike ,very nice but then got on my r100rs and again i said why?

when i ride in europe i usually rent new rt's and do like them. excellent at 100 plus mph on the autobahn and good very good in the alps and the dolomites ........i usually ride for 5 to 6 weeks all over before i head back home to the usa ,and when i get here i do notice a big difference between the newer rt's and mine , except the the moment i throw a leg over and get on the seat, i feel like i am riding a bicycle.
the much lower center of gravity and much.much lower weight is what endears me to this great bike .

have owned it since new in 1982 ,and together with my 550 spyder they will still be around for many moons
at 90 plus mph on the interstate it does get a little busy

I am also of the more mature rider generation (ie over 50) and have ridden many bikes in the those years since first getting my license at 17. I owned a 92 R100RS Rennsport 30 in Australia and absolutely loved it. Sadly I sold it when I moved to the US and have never forgiven myself. I purchased a Honda VFR800 in the US as they were claimed by many experts to be the best sports tourer ever made. Although the VFR was an excellent bike and I enjoyed it very much I missed the BMW and have tracked down a 92 R100RS here in the US (in the same Rennsport colours without the limited edition badge as were sold in Aus). All is well with the world again. I am in agreement that the total package of the R110RS is second to none and my 20 year old version is just a joy to ride.

Hi all BMW friends - I own a 82 r100rs and think it´s the best bike you can get. Already as a boy I wanted to have one so aprox. 10 years ago I found a cheap one sold by the second owner.
I love this bike - my wife says more than her... anyway I´ll never sell it - it´s good for a nice summer ride for many years to come. Thank you BMW for building this machinery :-)
I´m very happy reading other people have the same passion. See you out on the roads.

Have only just come across this article and your response. I get it!! Yes I do own an R100RS and aren't interested in many of the bikes that have come since. In fact I'm looking at buying another R100RS. Agree with other correspondents - it's fast in the real world; it's the fastest cross-country...still!!; it's simple to maintain (repair?); the fairing works. And ultimately it's built from quality components. As has been pointed out, how many other 30 year old bikes can you use every day, and then cross a continent on?

As good as the beemers are, I used to ride a r90s I disagree that they did not make better bikes after the r100rs.
I changed from a r90s to a r1100rs. It is a superb every dau to use bike. As much as iloved the r90s I hated the brakes. They were not suiteble for day to day use. Even in the Netherlands it rains alot. Just being a father and and having two escapes in the morning traffis I decided to change my brakes and front suspension (that is to difficult) for beemers with brembo's. When I run into a r1100rs I decided that was easier to trade in.
I still miss the old beemer but driving to the south of France I prefer the 100rs.
